Bro. Tom Weinandy of the Pennsylvania Province is quoted several times in a recent article on a draft of guidelines for pastoral ministry to gay people. The American Catholic bishops will be asked to approve the guidelines at their November 13-16 meeting in Baltimore. As executive director for the bishops’ secretariat for doctrine and pastoral practices since 2005, Tom has been involved in preparation of the document which affirms church teaching against same-sex relationships, marriages and adoptions by gay couples, yet encourages parishes to reach out to gay Catholics who feel alienated by their church. Previous to that Tom spent 14 years at Oxford University, most of them as Warden (president) of Greyfriars Hall.
