Friday, June 3, will be a special day for Brother Joseph Mary Elder, OFM Cap., and for the Capuchin Province of Mid-America. Brother Joseph will be ordained a deacon by Archbishop Charles Chaput, OFM Cap., at Annunciation Church here in Denver.
Brother Joseph Mary made his first profession as a Capuchin on November 23, 2004, at St. Patrick’s Church in St. Louis, MO, and his final profession on March 27, 2008, at St. Fidelis Church in Victoria, KS. He entered the Capuchins from St. Peter’s Parish in Kirkwood, MO, and studied at St. Louis University, St. Louis Community College, University of Missouri at St. Louis, St. Paul Institute, Pike’s Peak Community College, and since 2006 at St. John Vianney Seminary in Denver. He received the ministries of lector and acolyte in 2010.
Brother Joseph Mary has been involved in the youth ministry at Annunciation Parish. He is also the designer and “master” of the province’s web site. His parents, Bruce and Cheryl Elder, will be joining the friars and friends in Denver for the celebration. After his ordination, Brother Joseph Mary will be assigned to a year of diaconate internship at Annunciation Church.
