Fr. Regis Scanlon turned 70 years old on February 17. His birthday was doubly-blessed by the presence of his Capuchin Franciscan brothers and the Missionaries of Charity sisters!
Br. Donald Rank and the brothers at St. Anthony of Padua Friary prepared corn and black beans, guacamole salad and chips, in addition to the main dish of roasted buffalo. After the table was cleared and the “Happy Birthday” sung, Br. Donald brought out the mixed berry pie and Blue Bell ice cream. It was a delicious meal and a great way to celebrate Fat Tuesday.
The Missionaries of Charity sisters stopped by earlier in the evening, delivering home-made empanadas, Kerala cabbage and fried rice. For many years Fr. Regis has served as the regional spiritual director to the MC sisters, going all the way back to the era when they ran an AID's hospice at Seton House. In fact, Fr. Regis had the distinct honor of having met Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta.
Fr. Regis has lived in the post-novitiate community for several years now, modeling a life of contemplative prayer and simplicity.
